In a bold and forward-looking address at the Maiden Alumni Lecture Series of Ebonyi State University, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso issued a compelling call to action, urging Nigerian universities to radically overhaul their academic curricula. His keynote speech, filled with passion and clarity, focused on aligning higher education with the demands of today’s rapidly evolving world.
“Let us stop preparing students for a world that no longer exists,” Dr. Anyaso declared to thunderous applause. “It is time to redesign our curriculum—not around obsolete theories and rote memorization—but around leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship. These should not be afterthoughts or optional modules—they must become the core pillars of education.”
Dr. Anyaso, a successful entrepreneur and alumnus of the university, drew from his personal journey to challenge prevailing academic models that prioritize grades over growth. He emphasized that while certificates may help open doors, they do not guarantee real-world success.

Kenya
Country:
Universities and colleges in Kenya have strongly opposed a government proposal to reduce the number of students admitted into teacher training programmes, arguing that the move could have far-reaching negative effects on the country’s education system.
The institutions say limiting admissions will not only lock out thousands of qualified students but also jeopardise efforts to meet future teacher demand, reports Lucy Mumbi for The Eastleigh Voice. The Ministry of Education has called for a cap on teacher training admissions in response to the growing number of unemployed graduates.
However, university leaders warn that the plan could worsen the existing teacher shortage and derail long-term education goals, including those outlined in the Education 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Despite a nationwide shortage of 98,461 teachers in public schools, over 300,000 registered teachers remain jobless in Kenya.
