UBEC Plays Host to 6th Edition of African Edutech Conference

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is set to host the 6th edition of African Edutech Conference which will be organised by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, NBCC, in collaboration with Edufirst ng.
The ground-breaking event which is scheduled to take place later this year in UBE’s Digital Resource Center, DRC, promises to be a pivotal moment in the re-engineering of Africa’s educational landscape, the organisers said.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, yesterday, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, National Coordinator, UBEC DRC highlighted the Commission’s role in transforming education across Africa. He explained that UBEC’s strategic initiatives were focused on leveraging technology to enhance educational outcomes nationwide.

Mauritius Digital Promotion Agency Launches Digital Proficiency Course to Enhance National Digital Literacy

The Mauritius Digital Promotion Agency (MDPA), under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology and the University of Mauritius, launched the Digital Proficiency Course (DPC), on 23 May 2024, at the Mauritius Telecom Campus in Ébène.
The Digital Proficiency Course (DPC) is a comprehensive 45-hour training programme that encompasses five key modules: IT Fundamentals, Office Productivity Tools, Online Essentials, Digital Transactions and Security, and Privacy and Cyber Law.
The Vice-Prime Minister (VPM) and Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun; Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin; the Chairperson of the MDPA, Mr Dhurma Ashdeo Soburrun; the Executive Director of the MDPA, Dr Suraj Juddoo and other personalities were also present.

Lagos partners with NERDC to revamp school curriculum

As the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ibadan, Ademokoya emphasised the necessity of increased budget allocations to the education sector, asserting that this step would bolster its progress and positively impact the country.

The Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition winner will get N10m. A statement by NB revealed that entries for this 10th edition competition opened on Thursday, May 16, 2024, and would close on Friday, July 19, 2024.
In 2015, Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund introduced the Maltina Teacher of the Year, a national competition, to identify, honour, and reward outstanding teachers in Nigeria. FG vows to revolutionize basic education with groundbreaking research

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has restated the commitment of the Federal Government to transform basic education in the country. He stated this while delivering his address during a two-day workshop on Research Proposals Screening and Execution Modalities organized by the Digital Resource Centre.
He noted the critical role of research in the development of education, saying the results of the groundbreaking research to be coordinated by the Digital Resource Centre of the Commission would substantially guide the transformation process.
Spokesperson person of UBEC, Mr David Apeh, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja said Bobboyi explained that the Commission was making conscious efforts to focus on research in recognition of its pivotal role and potential to revolutionize the basic education subsector in Nigeria.

Lagos approves new book for secondary schools

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has officially approved the use of “Career Paths and Opportunities for Engineering, Science, Art, and Management Students” in the curriculum of all secondary schools throughout the state.
This approval was confirmed via a letter signed by Adedamola Abatan on behalf of the Permanent Secretary.
The author, Sheriff Lamidi said the comprehensive guide aims to equip students with the essential knowledge to make informed career choices.
“With this book now part of the recommended reading list for Lagos secondary schools, students will have access to a valuable resource that examines various career paths in engineering, science, art, and management. The book combines career guidance, practical examples, and actionable advice, making it an indispensable tool for students, teachers, and counselors,” Lamidi explained.

Only Federal Institutions Students Can Access Student Loans Now — FG

Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), has disclosed that the maximum of 1.2 million students across federal tertiary institutions will access the students’ loan in the first phase.
Speaking ahead of the opening of the portal for applications on Friday, he said the first phase would be officially open for students in federal institutions whose institutions have completed the uploading of their data.
While noting that the loan application process has been streamlined to ensure easy access for all eligible students in federal tertiary institutions, he said prospective applicants could begin their application process effective from May 24, 2024.
