A Group, Prestige Nigerian Educational Teacher Award, has honoured outstanding teachers who made significant impacts in the lives of their students.

The event which was held at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) main auditorium to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration, was in celebration of excellence in education, and the introduction of the Raising Star Challenge, an innovative programme designed to empower children to express themselves and showcase their talents.

The award served as a reminder that education is the key to unlocking the potential of the children and building a brighter future for Nigeria.

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is set to host the 6th edition of African Edutech Conference which will be organised by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, NBCC, in collaboration with Edufirst ng.

The ground-breaking event which is scheduled to take place later this year in UBE’s Digital Resource Center, DRC, promises to be a pivotal moment in the re-engineering of Africa’s educational landscape, the organisers said.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, yesterday, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, National Coordinator, UBEC DRC highlighted the Commission’s role in transforming education across Africa. He explained that UBEC’s strategic initiatives were focused on leveraging technology to enhance educational outcomes nationwide.

The Mauritius Digital Promotion Agency (MDPA), under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology and the University of Mauritius, launched the Digital Proficiency Course (DPC), on 23 May 2024, at the Mauritius Telecom Campus in Ébène.

The Digital Proficiency Course (DPC) is a comprehensive 45-hour training programme that encompasses five key modules: IT Fundamentals, Office Productivity Tools, Online Essentials, Digital Transactions and Security, and Privacy and Cyber Law.

As the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ibadan, Ademokoya emphasised the necessity of increased budget allocations to the education sector, asserting that this step would bolster its progress and positively impact the country.

In 2015, Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund introduced the Maltina Teacher of the Year, a national competition, to identify, honour, and reward outstanding teachers in Nigeria. The competition remains a platform to appreciate and reward teachers for their significant contribution towards the development of the education sector in Nigeria while inspiring excellence in teaching.

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has restated the commitment of the Federal Government to transform basic education in the country. He stated this while delivering his address during a two-day workshop on Research Proposals Screening and Execution Modalities organized by the Digital Resource Centre.

He noted the critical role of research in the development of education, saying the results of the groundbreaking research to be coordinated by the Digital Resource Centre of the Commission would substantially guide the transformation process.

The Chairman, Board of Trustee, Education First Nigeria, Dr Macjohn Nwabiaola, at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, underscored the importance of technology in upscaling educational needs of the people.

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has officially approved the use of “Career Paths and Opportunities for Engineering, Science, Art, and Management Students” in the curriculum of all secondary schools throughout the state.

This approval was confirmed via a letter signed by Adedamola Abatan on behalf of the Permanent Secretary.

Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, Man­aging Director of Nigerian Edu­cation Loan Fund (NELFUND), has disclosed that the maximum of 1.2 million students across federal tertiary institutions will access the students’ loan in the first phase.

Speaking ahead of the open­ing of the portal for applications on Friday, he said the first phase would be officially open for students in federal institutions whose institutions have complet­ed the uploading of their data.

While noting that the loan ap­plication process has been stream­lined to ensure easy access for all eligible students in federal tertia­ry institutions, he said prospective applicants could begin their appli­cation process effective from May 24, 2024.
